In case you missed it, you can watch our latest webinar, “On-Demand Disaster Recovery for VMware Horizon with VMware Cloud on AWS.” Simon Long and I showed how to get DR for VMware Horizon with VMware Cloud on AWS, and we did a demo.
VMware Horizon has always been a transformational tool that makes business users more efficient, and it provides end-user access to virtual desktops, applications, and online services through a single digital workspace.
However, VMware Horizon lacks a practical way to deliver Disaster Recovery for both on-premises environments and the cloud. There are just too many components and interdependencies to make VMware Horizon work seamlessly after a disaster.
To deliver DR, VMware Horizon administrators have to abstract components, virtualize applications, manually replicate golden images and make heavy use of non-persistent desktops. Still, it’s complex to have an effective DR that caters to strict RTO and RPO required by the business.
Due to this complexity, the typical resolution has been to adopt an entirely new VMware Horizon infrastructure that’s independently managed on the DR site, therefore missing user personas and user deployed applications.
Disaster Recovery for VMware Horizon with VMware Cloud on AWS
Datrium DRaaS with VMware Cloud on AWS is a comprehensive cloud-based backup and disaster recovery service that protects virtualized systems, and it works incredibly well with the VMware Horizon stack.
DRaaS enables organizations to eliminate physical DR sites, and it provides integrated VMware vSphere management. Because it’s delivered as a SaaS solution, it removes the complexity of packaged software.
Some benefits of DRaaS with VMware Cloud on AWS include:
- 10x more cost-efficient DR: Avoid the cost of a secondary DR site and only pay to use cloud DR when you need it.
- Easily recover entire VMware Horizon environments: With converged backup and DR, you can choose from millions of point-in-time consistent recovery snapshots.
- Failproof DR and efficient failback from the public cloud: DRaaS automatically checks your plan for health and compliance every 30 minutes, so you can be confident your VMware Horizon DR plan is going to work when you need it.
- Consistent vSphere operations on premises and in the cloud: DRaaS maintains VMs in their native vSphere format and eliminates brittle and time-consuming VM disk formation conversions as well as painful failback processes.
