Ensure your multi-cloud environment is always-on with Datrium DVX and Veeam Backup & Replication™

  • Simplicity, efficiency and scalability for built for the Enterprise Cloud
  • Datrium DVX and Veeam Backup & Replication allow you to backup and protect data more frequently so you can meet business SLAs
  • Recover what your users demand, when they demand it!

Organizations across the globe are challenged to provide their customers with high-performance applications that are available 24×7, regardless of location. With the adoption of high-performance solid-state flash technologies on the rise organizations are able to deliver on this performance need. With Datrium DVX and Veeam you’re able to take full advantage of Datrium’s innovative primary storage and Veeam’s disaster recovery technologies and ensure you are meeting the rigid SLAs the business demands. Datrium DVX Platform combined with Veeam Backup & Replication provides simplicity, efficiency, and scalability for your Enterprise Cloud.

A Datrium and Veeam joint solution supports a distributed architecture that consists of one or many locations as well as the public cloud. With Datrium DVX, VM performance is accelerated through either NVMe or SSD flash drives while persistent data remains available via a centralized global pool of de-duplicated storage, the Datrium Data Node. Virtual machine performance is significantly increased when leveraging host-based flash in addition to idle and unused Compute Node CPU cycles for storage operations. Each compute node receives the Datrium Hyperdriver software which performs data management services providing always-on, global compression, deduplication and erasure coding.

For years, Veeam has pioneered VM backup and has become widely adopted in the Enterprise. Customers leveraging Datrium DVX with Veeam Backup & Replication may backup and protect their data more frequently as well as restore what they want, when they want it. For instance, in the Primary Data Center (Figure 1) there is a production SQL, Oracle and Web server running as VMware vSphere VMs on Datrium DVX. Within Datrium, customers may create Protection Groups that allow for the multi-VM consistent snapshot of an entire application suite to occur. This allows all applications to be restored to the same point-in-time – this occurs every 15 minutes, and these snapshots are replicated to a Secondary Data Center where development occurs. Every evening the development environment is instantly refreshed with a snapshot from the previous day. Veeam Backup & Replication provides out-of-band protection for customers through traditional backup methods and stores their VM backup images on their Veeam Backup & Replication Repository.

Open Convergence Provides Flexibility for the Enterprise Cloud

With Datrium DVX, hypervisor I/O performance is enhanced through abundant and affordable local NVMe or SSD flash drives. I/O speed resources are server-based and Datrium DVX gets faster as you add servers. Durable data for primary and remote copies of business data is provided centrally through the Datrium DVX data server capabilities. The Datrium Open Convergence architecture provides ultimate flexibility for host flash placement for applications and performance improvements where needed.

VM-centric Simplicity Allows you to Focus on the Business

Datrium and Veeam solutions allow you to leverage your existing under-utilized ESXi host infrastructure CPU cycles when you add host-side SSDs to experience a higher server ROI. With these combined solutions, your IT team can focus on managing applications and the infrastructure they run on at the VM level. IT administrators can easily support application storage and data protection tasks in the same context. When you leverage Veeam Backup & Replication application-aware imaging processing you’re able to quickly and easily recover any item or application through capabilities such as Veeam Explorers.  Customers can also utilize Datrium’s Data Cloud Foundation in tandem with Veeam Backup & Replication Backup Copy Jobs to alternate locations including Veeam Cloud & Service Providers (VCSP). The result is optimal data protection for your applications and services making your data management effortless.

Improved Economics and SLAs — Less Time, Less Complexity

Datrium DVX Open Convergence platform provides you with a primary storage architecture designed, from the ground up, for the virtualized data center. Datrium’s host-side software (VIB) offloads reads to local flash and accelerate writes to a shared storage capacity resource. I/O speed resources are server-based, so the Datrium DVX gets faster as you add servers – up to 128 hosts. Datrium DVX is also designed with always-on data reduction with inline deduplication and compression at the local host flash level and global deduplication at the DVX data server. The combination of Datrium DVX and Veeam is leveraged for more efficient RPO and RTO goals from the virtualization aware backup components. Faster applications, faster time to backup, faster time to recover.

High Availability for the Always-On Enterprise

A Datrium DVX solution means there is no single point of failure for enterprise applications. Efficient data protection within and across each site is accomplished with industry-leading solutions from Veeam. Simplicity through agentless deployment, leverage proxy host placement and data caching to meet the needs of the application and the infrastructure are great examples. Key features like Change Block Tracking (CBT) and storage efficiency (data reduction) lower data handling requirements, increasing the performance of your backup infrastructure. With Datrium DVX and Veeam you get predictable performance with real-time VM analytics as you scale-out.

When you’re looking for optimal storage and data protection solution for your enterprise cloud environment, the combination of Datrium DVX Open Convergence platform and Veeam Backup & Replication will provide the right mix of performance, manageability, scalability, and data protection to meet the demanding needs of today’s modern data centers.
